The Third GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan International Film Festival Awards

FEATURE FILM COMPETITION AWARDS
The international jury chaired by Moritz de Hadeln from Germany and Switzerland, and having as members Kim Dong Ho from South Korea, Sandra den Hamer from the Netherlands, Yesim Ustaoglu from Turkey and Perch Zeytuntsian from Armenia, wishes to make the following statement:

The jury was unanimously impressed by the quality of the feature films selected in competition which underlines the high standard reached by the Yerevan Golden Apricot Film Festival and the love of its organizers for true cinematographic values.

The Yerevan Golden Apricot International Film Festival, with its rich program, has become in our opinion, with this third edition, an important event on the international festival calendar and is playing an increasing role in promoting Armenian reality, its richness and diversity throughout the world. The jury hopes the Armenian authorities, conscious of these facts, will support with increasing commitment the Festival organizers in the difficult task they are facing so bravely.

The jury was, in its deliberations, also concerned with the state of Armenian film production and wishes to encourage all efforts undertaken to help the rebirth of the new Armenian cinema, by giving new opportunities to the many talented artists and craftsman of this country.

On a rural estate live three brothers, a sister, and their blind, religious mother. Three of the siblings have epilepsy, the fourth and eldest, Augusto does not, and he's about to break away from the family: he's in love with Lucia and planning to move to the city. Augusto's sister Guilia tries to frustrate the lovers, while another brother, Alessandro, hatches a far-reaching plot to free himself of his mother's demands and other family responsibilities, to give Augusto the wherewithal to leave with Lucia, and, perhaps, to pursue incestuous impulses with his sister.

This film presnts a record of the last working year of the old prison of Valparaiso, which closed in 1999. It is a homage to the prison and to the values and customs of the men, who have secretly lived within it during its 150 year history.
