Armenian films in Turkey

From 6 to 12 October “Golden Apricot” Yerevan IFF programmer Artsvi Bakhchinyan have been in Turkey by invitation of Anadoly Kultur Association. This new NGO has a project of organizing screenings of Armenian films in Istanbul as well as in some other city in Turkey. This time it was Diyarbakir. The program officer of Anadolu Kultur, Kubilay Ozmen. who has visited Armenia this year, contacted the Golden Apricot office, asking for providing Armenian films. The festival office suggested three films by Harutyun Khachatryan: "Return to the Promised Land," "Documentalist," "Return of the Poet," as well as Albert Mkrtchyan's "Merry Bus." “Return of the Poet" screened at the Diyarbakir Art Center on October 7. Before the screening Bakhchinyan gave a lecture about the history and current state of Armenian cinema
The next lecture was on October 10 Mithat Alam Film Center of Bogazici University. The audience was more professional, giving interesting questions regarding cinema. After Q&A again “Return of the Poet" was screened.
On October 12 all four Armenian films were screened at Bilgi University.
There are was meeting with people from film field, including filmmakers Selim Aslanyurek, Ceylan, director of Mithat Alam Film Center Yamac Okun, film critic Alin Tasciyan, etc. They talked about possibilities of future cooperation, discussing possible projects that would foster the development of Armenian-Turkish dialogue also through the cinema.

On a rural estate live three brothers, a sister, and their blind, religious mother. Three of the siblings have epilepsy, the fourth and eldest, Augusto does not, and he's about to break away from the family: he's in love with Lucia and planning to move to the city. Augusto's sister Guilia tries to frustrate the lovers, while another brother, Alessandro, hatches a far-reaching plot to free himself of his mother's demands and other family responsibilities, to give Augusto the wherewithal to leave with Lucia, and, perhaps, to pursue incestuous impulses with his sister.

This film presnts a record of the last working year of the old prison of Valparaiso, which closed in 1999. It is a homage to the prison and to the values and customs of the men, who have secretly lived within it during its 150 year history.
